EMBA study trip in Japan
The College of Business Executive Master of Business Administration (Chinese) (EMBA (Chinese)) programme has organised a six-day study trip in Fukuoka, Japan, from 16th-21st March. 15 learning partners from the Spring 2015 cohort participated in the trip.
The study tour aimed to consolidate knowledge and get insights in corporate management through visiting established companies in Japan and having lectures on topics such as management economics, and company listing, mergers and acquisitions, etc. Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of the College of Business and Chair Professor of Management Sciences, and Prof Wayne Yu, Assistant Dean and Professor of the Department of Accountancy and the Department of Economics and Finance, and Dr Yong Wang, Associate Director of EMBA (Chinese) programme and Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Finance led the expedition.
The group was hosted by Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU), and had classes in their campus during the six-day trip. Prof Yokoyama Kenji, Pro Vice-President and Executive Dean of APU, presented a guest lecture on Management of Japanese Family Business on 19th March.
Apart from Prof Yokoyama, Prof Korenaga Shun, President of APU, Prof Otake Toshitsugu, Dean of the College of International Management and Dean of the Graduate School of Management, Prof Otsuka Kozo, Prof Beise-Zee Marian and Mr Hiroyuki Takita, President of Oita Paper Products Co., Ltd., were invited to the programme’s welcome dinner hosted by Dean Prof Yan.
Highlights of the study trip also included visits to leading Japanese corporates, namely, Toyota Motor Kyushu Inc. Miyata Factory, one of global leading automobile and luxurious cars manufacturing companies; and Sanwa Shurui Co. Ltd, a long-standing, comprehensive brewing company which produces a wide range of spirits including the familiar Shochu Ichiko and sake. The visit to Sanwa Shurui corresponded to Prof Yokoyama’s earlier lecture about traditional family business in Japan, and best exemplified the longevity and unique marketing strategies of it.
