The College of Business and City University of Hong Kong Postgraduate Association hosted Day One of the Business Career Talk Series on Saturday, Nov 23rd. This event is part of a three-day Career Talk Series which will take place on three consecutive Saturdays: Nov 23rd, Nov 30th, and Dec 7th.

Opening Speaker

Dr. Geoffrey Tso, Associate Head and Associate Professor of the Department of Management Sciences at the College of Business, launched the seminar series with a brief overview of the general job market in HK and China.

 

Industry Professional Speakers

Mr. Alvin Leung, Deputy General Manager and the Chief of Human Resources Development Division of Intelligence Hong Kong Ltd. then presented a lively talk to the audience highlighting that:

  • Recruiters use all the resources available to find out about their applicants. ‘I google you’ is the term that is most commonly heard.

  • Capability = Interpersonal Skill + Problem Solving Skill (Knowledge and logic) + Commitment minded (in committing to work hard even when you know nothing, and in committing to help other team members in the work field).

Mr. C P Lui, Group Financial Controller and Company Secretory of Hsin Chong Construction Group Ltd. gave the audience an overview of the career prospects of CPA (Certified Public Accountant) graduates emphasizing that:

  • You don't need to be accounting majors to become a CPA. There are bridging courses that institutions, i.e. CityU, and big firms offer for non-accounting major students.

  • CPA is the superman in Accounting and Finance.
