AC celebrates move with house-warming party

The Department of Accountancy held a house-warming gathering to celebrate the relocation of their office to 13th floor of the new Academic 3 building on Tuesday, 17th December. A celebration party for the ACCA HK Business Competition 2013 award winning students was held at the same time.

Prof. Jeong-bon Kim, Head of Department of Accountancy, opened the party welcoming the students, faculty members, and overseas visiting scholars to the new office. Prof. Kim congratulated the award-winning students by quoting from the Analects of Confucius “學而時習之,不亦說乎” complimenting students’ effort in constantly practicing concepts learned in class. Also: “有朋自遠方來,不亦樂乎” showing that he was grateful to see friends from around the world come to join the celebration.

Honorary guests from overseas included Prof. Heibatollah Sami, Professor from the Department of Accounting at the College of Business and Economics, Lehigh University;  Dr. Alvis Lo, Professor from the Department of Accounting at the Carroll School of Management, Boston College; and Dr. Han Sang Yi, Professor from Korea University Business School.

Prof. Houmin Yan, Dean of the College of Business, emphasized that winning the competition was an interdisciplinary success through the combined efforts of the departments of Accountancy, Marketing, and Management Sciences. Prof. Arthur Ellis, Provost of CityU, was also present at the celebration.

The gathering was served with a roasted pig, symbolizing great fortune in the future, and other refreshments. Among the other guests were CityU professors, including Prof. Paul K S Lam, Chief-of-Staff; Prof. Chenting Su, Head of Department of Marketing; Prof. Edwin Poon, Chair Professor of Electrical Engineering and the College Management Team.
