Business Career Talk Series by Top Executives – Day Two

Dr. Andrew Chan, Associate Professor of the Department of Management and Director of First Year Teaching and Learning for Undergraduates Programmes at the College of Business, opened the day introducing the ‘4 Windows of Working’ and highlighting:

• Explore: utilizing opportunities (Fresh graduates’ first ‘Golden Five Years.’)

• Extend: knowing your qualifications and knowledge; applying them beyond yourselves and onto your teammates at work

• Consolidate: getting things solid, family, property, etc.

• Mentor: mentoring the youth

Mr. Sam Hu, Market Director of Element Technologies and Supplies Ltd. then presented an overview of the management sciences industry to the audience. He shared some tips on positive job search mentality:

• One should use their knowledge and expand it.

• Find something that you are interested and have knowledge in it; don't focus on the monetary aspects.

• “Small knowledge provides great opportunity.”

Mr. Tony Leung, Head of Supply Chain Solutions, HK & Macau DHL Supply Chain (HK) Ltd. concluded the day by giving the audience some useful statistics on e-commerce emphasizing that:

• One should not focus on his/her salary; one should “find a good platform to develop his/herself.”

• “Find ways to become an insider of the industry of your interest.”

• “E-commerce has grown 39% in the last five years.”

• “41% use their phone/ smart phone for shopping.” There are countless opportunities.
