Nelson MANDELA, South Africa's first black president died at the age of 95 at his home in Johannesburg surrounded by his family on 5th December. He spent his whole life fighting for equality, democracy and freedom for his people and nation. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 and was described as "the father of the nation” in South Africa.
All flags in South Africa would be lowered to half mast, and would remain there until after Mr. MANDELA 's state funeral.
