Forum Topics:
-
Energy resources – Strategies and National Safety 《能源戰略與國家安全》 (18th September)
Energy resources are a necessity for modern human life. The current main sources of energy are from coal, oil, and natural gas. They are easily accessible and inexpensive, but are causing environment issues like global warming. Nuclear power does not cause pollution, but is controversial on its safety. For other sources, there are issues concerning their quality, sustainability, and availability. Thus, what substances are regarded as reliable sources of energy? What is the most reasonable energy mix?
Prof Kuo explored the relationship between energy resources and strategies for national safety, as well as suggestions on balancing China’s economic development and environmental protection in its high demand setting for energy resources.
- Education - Higher Education and Innovation in China 《高等教育與創新》 (19th September)
Modernization of higher education should follow international standards, i.e. both teaching and research studies are critical for nurturing students in knowledge creation, technology progression, and social development.
Prof Kuo introduced the goals, current structures, and challenges of China’s higher education system. He then discussed the importance of innovation in China’s higher education development.
