Dr Wang Tianyi, CEO of China Everbright International Limited, was invited to the College of Business to talk about his experience in developing “zero-waste cities” in China on 12 January . Over 30 students from the EMBA+MPA programme gained insights on the overall concept of “zero-waste cities”, international experience in this field, as well as the systematic planning and development of “zero-waste cities” in China.
Professor Houmin Yan, Acting Dean of the College, kick-started the seminar by introducing Dr Wang Tianyi. Dr Wang has a wealth of experience in corporate management and previously worked in several senior positions in universities and government organisations. He is also a Co-Director of the Center for Public-Private Partnership (PPP) at Tsinghua University and is one of the College’s advisors who initiated the CityU-Tsinghua EMBA+MPA programme.
In his talk, Dr Wang shared his insights and suggestions on the development of “zero-waste cities”, citing Everbright International’s business and brand experience. When being asked if the development of “zero-waste cities” a conflict with the company’s core business, waste-to-energy, Dr Wang said “’zero-waste cities’ is an extremely long-term project. It’s now in a phase that waste-to-energy plays a role to accelerate the progress. However, to achieve sustainable development, the company should keep up with market demand and change.”
The event was part of “Politics and Business Panorama”(政商大視野), seminar series organised by the EMBA+MPA programme, a double master’s programme jointly developed by the CityU’s College of Business and Tsinghua University’s School of Public Policy and Administration. Distinguished speakers are invited to share insights on a wide range of topics in business and political context.
