2024 HK Conference for Fintech, AI, and Big Data in Business
The 2024 Hong Kong Conference on Fintech, AI, and Big Data in Business, co-hosted by the Hong Kong Laboratory of AI-Powered Financial Technologies (AIFT), Department of Management Sciences, Department of Economics and Finance and the Hong Kong Institute for Data Science at City University of Hong Kong, was held on 31 May and 1 June 2024, attracting over 100 participants from around the world. This academic conference focused on the intersection of fintech and statistics, drawing scholars from institutions worldwide to exchange insights, showcase research, and develop collaborations.
Dean Kalok Chan and Professor Houmin Yan (Chair Professor of Management Sciences and Director of AIFT) delivered the opening remarks on separate days, setting the stage for a series of thought-provoking discussions. Keynote speakers included Professor Siddhartha Chib from Washington University in St. Louis, Professor Dennis K.J. Lin from Purdue University, Professor Qiwei Yao from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Professor Ram Gopal from the University of Warwick. Their contributions to the field and their presentations were highly anticipated and well-received.
The conference offered a platform for discussion and network among academics, aiming to propel innovation and chart the course for future research endeavors. The event was marked by a spirit of collaboration and a shared passion for advancing knowledge in fintech, AI, and Big Data.
During the conference, Professor Bing Han from the University of Toronto was awarded the "Best Paper Award" for his paper "Forecasting Option Returns with News," and Professor Yubo Tao from the University of Macau was awarded the "Best Discussant Award."
The event concluded with a gala dinner, where attendees had the opportunity to network and reflect on the conference. Overall, the 2024 Hong Kong Conference on Fintech, AI, and Big Data in Business highlighted the importance of academic collaboration in these rapidly evolving fields.
