Professor Albert Ip, Chairman of the Business Career Development Advisory Committee and Adjunct Professor at the College of Business, had his new book “Journey to Student Employment Counseling and Planning” (《心之行— 學生就業輔導與規劃》) published by CityUHK Press and launched on 19 July 2024 at the Hong Kong Book Fair. The event was attended by over 100 university leaders, CEOs, and students, where more than 300 books were sold on the spot. In his book, Professor Ip shares his career transformation from banking to education, career counselling stories, career preparation advice for students, and insights into the fast-changing market.

Professor Ip is an international banking and real estate senior management with more than 30 years of experience at Citigroup, First National Bank of Chicago, Wells Fargo Bank and Bank of America Merrill Lynch in New York City, San Francisco and Hong Kong. His expertise encompasses corporate banking, real estate finance, risk management, transaction banking and wealth management.  As the Chairman of the Business Career Development Advisory Committee, Professor Ip has provided career consultations to hundreds of CityUHK business students over the past six years. Through his extensive network, career guidance and interview coaching, over 120 CB students have secured summer internships and graduate placements at leading banks and renowned companies. During the pandemic, Professor Ip significantly contributed to the CARLs programme by connecting CityUHK to numerous companies, creating hundreds of job openings for graduating students.

Professor Ip emphasised, “The world is getting more diverse and the economics are getting more challenging for student career opportunities. Universities should dedicate more resources, and increase if they benefit students. Instilling knowledge in the classroom is a significant part of education, but applying that knowledge effectively to secure the right job is equally, if not more, important.”

Professor Kalok Chan, Dean of the College of Business, expressed his deep appreciation for the contributions of Professor Ip. "Professor Ip has made invaluable and influential contributions to the College and to the development of our students," Dean Chan said. "We are grateful that he passes on his expertise and shares his experiences in career counseling through his new book. This will undoubtedly be an invaluable resource for our students as they navigate their professional journeys."

The book offers extensive career advice and tips on career planning, development and interview techniques. CB students are encouraged to explore its contents. Professor Ip also welcomes to meet with any CB students through career consultations.
