CityUHK EMBA hosts Sustainability & ESG Awards 2024
CityUHK EMBA and NEXX co-hosted the NEXX Sustainability & ESG Awards 2024 on 26 July. The awards ceremony recognised organisations across Hong Kong for their contributions towards sustainable business practices and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives.
The event consisted of two parts - a panel discussion featuring industry leaders, followed by the awards presentation. The panel discussion “Driving Business Excellence through Sustainability Innovative ESG Strategies for Growth and Profitability” brought together three distinguished guests: Mr Paul Tirvaudey, Managing Director of Hong Kong Tramways Limited; Professor Felix Chung, Founder & CEO of Hong Kong Carbon Trading Centre; and Mr Wilson Kwong, Chief Executive of Hactl. The session was moderated by Mr Victor Cheng, Director (Sustainability) of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park Ltd. These experts shared their insights and experiences on balancing profitability and incorporating sustainability initiatives within their businesses, demonstrating a solid commitment to corporate social responsibility.

The awards presentation, which recognised organisations across six categories: Sustainability & ESG Strategy, ESG Innovation Project, Community Education and Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion, Circular Economy, and Start-up ESG Innovation. Over 20 awards were presented, honouring awardees from diverse industries for their impactful efforts in these critical areas of sustainability. The awardees include AS Watson, Cathay Pacific, CN Logistic, Eaton Hotel, Esquel, Hang Lung Properties, HK Electric, HGC Global Communications, MTR, Visa, Ocean Park, Redress, Slowood, Uni-China, and etc. The full list of the awardees will be published on NEXX website (https://www.nexxhk.com/nexxzero).
In his opening remarks, Professor Michael Wong, College of Business Associate Dean (Global Executive Programmes), emphasised the growing importance of ESG in the business community. "Climate change is a significant challenge we face in the coming years. At the same time, there is a growing recognition in society of the importance of ESG businesses, which address our social and environmental challenges. We hope to see the business community stepping up to generate positive social impacts beyond just focusing on profits." Professor Wong expressed pride in CityUHK's leadership in integrating sustainability into its education to nurture the next generation of responsible corporate leaders.

Keynote speaker Mr Allan Zeman, Chairman of Lan Kwai Fong Group, shared his enthusiasm for the growing focus on ESG in Hong Kong. "I am pleased to see ESG become an important topic in Hong Kong, and It is encouraging to see the growing awareness and engagement of young students in this area.” Mr Zeman congratulated the award recipients and encouraged all stakeholders to collaborate to elevate Hong Kong as a leader in ESG.
