College Orientation 2024 emphasises diversity and excellence
The College of Business at the City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) hosted its College Orientation on 29 August 2024, welcoming a vibrant group of freshmen under the theme “CBizDiversity”. Co-hosted by the College of Business Student Leadership Chapter (CBSLC), this year’s orientation emphasised the role of diversity in shaping future business leaders.

During the opening ceremony, Professor Kalok Chan, Dean of the College of Business, warmly welcomed all new students this year to embark a fulfilling learning journey with the College, highlighting the institution's mission to develop business leaders. "At CityUHK and CB, our mission is to foster passionate and visionary business leaders," he said, “every single one of you has the potential to succeed. By dedicating yourselves to giving your best effort and striving for excellence in your studies and personal growth, you can achieve remarkable success.”

Professor Raymond Wong, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programmes), emphasised the theme of “CBizDiversity”, sharing, "On one hand, we are proud to present this year's theme, CBizDiversity; we want to make it part of your future career. On the other hand, CB is Diversity. We hope you can grab the opportunity to embrace the various aspects of diversity offered by CB: to gain academic diversity, to taste cultural diversity, to enjoy diversified support from CB, and to appreciate talent diversity."

The event featured a keynote speech by distinguished CityUHK alumnus Vivek Mahbubani, who presented a talk titled "Diversity is a Super Move." In his engaging sharing, Vivek highlighted the importance of connecting diverse ideas to foster innovation.

During the orientation, student leaders from CBSLC conducted fun and interactive games to promote camaraderie among the freshmen. CBSLC also produced a resourceful video to help newcomers navigate their university journey.
As the event concluded, the freshmen expressed enthusiasm about their upcoming academic pursuits at CityUHK CB. They were eager to embrace the concept of “CBizDiversity”, which has set the stage for a dynamic and inclusive academic year ahead.
