Research abroad opportunity at MIT
The College of Business has partnered with the MIT Data Science Lab (MIT DSL) to offer a new customised research abroad opportunity at MIT (RA-MIT) this summer to prepare students for the anticipated growth in demand for data scientists. This six-week immersive experience aims to cultivate the next generation of data science talents.
MIT, a recognised world leader in research, education and innovation, is ranked 1st globally by the QS World University Rankings 2025. The RA-MIT programme was designed and delivered by Professor David Simchi-Levi, Director of MIT DSL and member of the National Academy of Engineering, along with his team. Professor Simchi-Levi is a Professor of Engineering Systems at MIT and is considered a premier thought leader in supply chain management and business analytics. The programme provides 10 CB students an exceptional opportunity to learn and engage in a business analytics research project while experiencing living overseas during the summer break. Upon successful completion, participants are awarded a certificate from MIT DSL and can transfer up to 3 credits to their CityUHK degree.
The RA-MIT programme offers students diverse activities, including lectures, case studies, research as well as networking activities and cultural experiences such as dinners with MIT faculty, campus tours, and museum visits.

A total of 10 CB students joined RA-MIT to engage in business analytics research during the summer break.
Michelle WU, Senior Scientist and Co-Director of the MIT DSL, highlighted the CB students’ energy, eagerness to learn, and thought-provoking questions during the programme. She said, “As the programme concluded, I would like to thank all of you for the great effort and support to make it successful! We have enjoyed knowing each of these talented students and hearing their diverse and insightful ideas. It has been a pleasure to witness their growth and enthusiasm.”
Participants have praised the programme's structure, which combines theoretical knowledge with immediately applicable assignments. "The assignments allow me to recall what I got from the lecture. I enjoyed that part, which solidified my learning a bit more," said Mudassar Muhammad (BBA Global Business).
Another Global Business student, Nicholas Chamberlin, highlighted the development of his problem-solving and decision-making skills, stating, “I have learnt how to tackle a problem from more than one perspective and by having diverse perspectives. I can come up with a unique solution. These skills make me more attractive to the workplace."
CB is committed to providing students with valuable opportunities that help expand their horizons, develop their intercultural competency and enhance their career readiness, during the summer break.
