CB Business Career Fair connects young talents and industry professionals

The College of Business hosted its annual Business Career Fair on 12 September at the CityUHK campus. The event received over 1,500 CityUHK students visiting job booths from various industries to explore internship and graduate job opportunities. Additionally, students attended one-on-one CV consultations provided by professional consultants.

The career fair kicked off with welcoming remarks from Professor Kalok Chan, Dean of the College of Business, who expressed his heartfelt thanks to all the participating companies and recruiters for their contribution and dedication to the event. Dean Chan said in his opening remarks, “With the business landscape constantly evolving, driven by technological advancements, changing consumer behaviours, and global economic shifts. Our students must be equipped with the necessary job skills, knowledge, technologies and adaptability to thrive in this ever-changing environment.” He highlighted that the College of Business offers students a diverse range of educational programmes to foster and transform them into future global leaders and CityUHK business students are well prepared for the job market, with professional training such as ESG, legal and regulatory, sales and trading simulations, banking, management consulting, and IT and data skills in line with the emerging business technology.

Following Dean Chan, Professor Albert Ip, Chairman of the Business Career Development Advisory Committee, shared observation from his 30 years of experience in banking and hospitality. Professor Ip discussed the transformation of Hong Kong's economy towards a service-oriented model, emphasising sectors such as finance, banking, professional services, tourism, and technology. He said, “Employers emphasis on soft skills including teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and creativity, and seek candidates who can adapt to a rapidly changing business environment.” Professor Ip encouraged students to learn and possess a combination of specialised knowledge, technical skills, soft skills, and adaptability to thrive in this evolving job market.

The Business Career Fair, organised by the College’s Business Career Development (BCD) unit, marked its ninth edition this year, featuring 52 companies from multiple industry sectors, including S&P 500s, multinational companies, and other industry leaders. These companies set up booths to introduce their internship opportunities for 2024/25. A full list of participating companies is available here.
