Over 100 business students gathered on 24 September for an insightful industry talk titled “Global Markets: Challenges, Issues, and Professional Practices,” organised by the College of Business and supported by the Treasury Market Association. The event featured leading experts who shared valuable insights into the financial markets and career pathways.

The speakers included Dr Chordio Chan, CEO of the Treasury Market Association; Mr Charles Lam, Managing Director and Head of Markets (Hong Kong) at Citigroup Global Markets Asia Limited; and Mr William Shek, Managing Director and Head of Markets and Securities Services HK at The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited. Each speaker offered unique perspectives on critical issues in the money and bond markets and emerging career prospects.

Dr Chan opened with an overview of the Treasury Markets Association, emphasising its role in fostering a robust financial ecosystem. Mr Lam discussed current trends in foreign exchange, money, bond, and equity markets, while Mr Shek provided insights into the latest developments in the bond industry. Throughout the event, speakers highlighted the importance of having the right attitude for success in finance. Professor Michael Wong, Associate Dean of Global Executive Programmes, said, "Today's discussion is fruitful as we can understand market trends and inspire our future leaders to embrace challenges and seize opportunities in the evolving landscape of global finance." The interactive Q&A session allowed students to engage directly with the experts, fostering enriching dialogue about working in finance.
