In November 2024, the CB3020 Advanced Business Seminar series continued its successful run with prominent leaders from the garment, banking and insurance sectors. These three seminars featured Ms Teresa Yang, JP, Vice Chairman of Esquel Group, Dr Peter Wong Tung-shun, GBS, JP, Chairman of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, and Mr Wilson Tang, Chief Executive of BOC Group Life Assurance Company Limited (BOC Life).

On 12 November, Ms Teresa Yang shared her experiences and insights from the family-owned Esquel Group, highlighting the company’s core values and sustainable initiatives. She engaged students in discussing the realities of running a business, emphasising the need for a strategic approach to sustainability. "Every industry needs a strategy for becoming more sustainable. Go for your interests and what you are good at," she advised students interested in entering the sustainability field.

The seminar on 19 November featured Dr Peter Wong, a veteran banker over 40 years of experience in the industry. He shared insights from his career, underscoring the importance of a global mindset in today’s interconnected economy. "Skills and experience are essential, but having the right mentality is crucial to building a rewarding career," he said, encouraging students to seize the unique opportunities offered by Hong Kong’s international characteristics.

Mr Wilson Tang delivered his seminar on 26 November, introducing five key global trends that will shape the future: an ageing population, artificial intelligence and automation, ESG and sustainability, Web 3 and blockchain, and deglobalisation. He urged students to be aware of these trends when planning their careers. Drawing from his own experiences, Mr Tang encouraged resilience in the face of challenges. "Do not complain, and do not give up. Accepting the reality of change, find out what you can change," he remarked, motivating the next generation of business leaders.

Looking ahead, the College of Business will offer the CB3020 Plus seminar course in Semester B 2024/25, featuring further distinguished business leaders from Hong Kong. These seminars will continue providing students with opportunities to engage directly with industry figures, offering insights beyond traditional classroom learning. Students are encouraged to enroll in CB3020 Plus to interact face-to-face with business leaders and gain firsthand knowledge about the challenges and successes that define their careers.
