Hong Kong’s first MSc Artificial Intelligence in Business
The launching ceremony of the MSc Artificial Intelligence in Business (MScAIB) was held on 5 March 2025 at CityUHK campus. Guests officiating at the ceremony included Professor Kalok Chan, Dean of the College of Business, Professor Alex Wang, Head of Department of Information Systems (IS), and Professor Jian Ma, MScAIB Programme Leader of IS, and representatives from leading tech firms like Alibaba Cloud, Microsoft, and Google Cloud.
The MScAIB programme is designed for candidates with a background in information technology or business. As Hong Kong’s first programme integrating AI technology with commercial applications, it focuses on the methods and real-life applications of generative AI. By combining the College of Business’ core areas—such as accounting, finance, sales, marketing, operations, and management—the programme prepares students to tackle future business challenges. Key competencies developed include: (1) Leveraging AI to enhance business efficiency; (2) Planning and managing AI projects to foster innovation; (3) Designing AI solutions that positively impact society and promote sustainable development.

Professor Kalok Chan said at the ceremony, “It is a source of pride and joy for me to witness the Department of Information Systems at CityUHK launch Hong Kong’s first MScAIB programme. As one of Asia’s most sizable business schools, CityUHK College of Business has gone from strength to strength in global MBA rankings in recent years, a testament to its leading position among elite schools in Hong Kong and Asia at large on the fronts of teaching quality, learning environment, teaching facilities, student support, internship opportunities, and scholarships. I believe that we will capitalise on our competitive edge and nurture a new generation of interdisciplinary leaders equipped with technical and professional knowledge on AI, business intelligence, innovative thinking, and international perspective”.
Professor Alex Wang shared, “Our mission is to nurture smart talent for a smart business. We aspire to become a global leader in business generative AI, advancing local innovation and leading talent cultivation.” Professor Jian Ma added, “The MScAIB programme isn’t only geared towards Hong Kong, but it trains its sights on the mainland and international markets. The world is paying increasing attention to keywords such as business intelligence and application of AI in business. Thus, our MScAIB programme should prove to be immensely popular.”

During the ceremony, representatives from leading tech firms, including Mr Clarence Ng, Director of Global Training Operations and Strategic Growth at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence; Mr Handson Wu, General Manager of the Greater Bay Area at Inspur Zhuoshu Big Data Industry Development Company Limited; Mr Fred Sheu, National Technology Officer at Microsoft Hong Kong; Ms Alice So, Head of Entrepreneurship at Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited; and Mr Andy Chow, Head of Customer Solution Architects at Google Cloud Hong Kong, also came on stage to share their insights and lend their support to this groundbreaking new MScAIB programme.
