Biography

Mr. Lester Chan is an entrepreneur whose knowledge of the technology sector wishes to share his insights and experience with students through his role as an Adjunct Professor at the College of Business, City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK). Mr. Chan brings his deep-rooted knowledge of smart building and the Internet of Things (IoT) domains into his teaching, shaping future leaders and innovators.

In 2017, Mr. Chan founded Aura Labs, scaling the business from three to over thirty employees. Under his leadership as CEO, Aura Labs has been supported by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park under its Acceleration programme, demonstrating his commitment to fostering technological innovation and entrepreneurship within the region. The success of Aura Labs enhances his teachings, providing real-world insights into the complexities of growing a tech-driven enterprise globally. Furthering his entrepreneurial pursuits, Mr. Chan also co-founded and serves as the Executive Director of AAIOT Group, a conglomerate whose companies supply cutting-edge solutions in the realms of smart buildings and IoT. These solutions are currently implemented in over 16 countries, which underscores his influence on international markets and technology platforms.

Apart from his professional roles, Mr. Chan is deeply involved in various organizations. He is a Vice President of the Hong Kong Science Park Startup Alumni Association, where he leads as Chairman of Membership Engagement. Mr. Chan’s fellowship with notable institutions such as Tencent THINC, INSPIRO Young Entrepreneurs Network for Sustainable Development, and the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce reflects his dedication to influencing global policies and technologies towards sustainable development.

Mr. Chan is also a Permanent Member of the Hong Kong Young Scientist Association and sits on the Steering Committee of its AI & Digital Innovation Group. His thought leadership extends to writing, through his role as a columnist for the Hong Kong Economic Journal, and he is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Educationally, Mr. Chan is well-grounded with a Master of Science in Transport Engineering from Imperial College London, having been a Leonard Chow Engineering Scholar. He also holds a First-Class Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from University College London, where he earned the prestigious R. B. Hounsfield Prize.
